He sports massage in Granada Quiroesencia is a session designed for active people who want to maintain their muscles between workouts. In the historic center of Granada, we welcome you to a space where the focus during the session is on your body and how you feel that day.
It's also our session of deep tissue massage —which in English is known as deep tissue massage—: Slow, sustained pressure on the innermost muscle layers. It's not a force massage, it's a massage of intention. That's why you don't need to be an athlete to book it: it's equally effective whether you're dealing with tension from long hours at a desk or an area that hasn't loosened up for weeks.
We don't work with a fixed routine. Before we begin, we listen to you: what sport you practice, which areas feel tense, when your next demanding session is. From there, we adapt the pressure, rhythm, and techniques to what your body needs at that moment. If you train in Granada—running along the Genil River, hiking in the Sierra Nevada mountains, cycling in the Montes de Granada, or any team sport—a sports massage at Quiroesencia is the break your body has been craving for weeks.
What you will feel in the session
Muscles that finally release
Firm, targeted pressure where your body needs it most: legs, back, trapezius muscles. Direct, no-nonsense maneuvers that go where it's needed.
Mobility restored
I work on joints and soft tissue that restores the range of motion that training takes away session after session.
Back to the rhythm
It's not just about recovery. It's about preparing for the next session feeling better than you did at the last one. Your body will notice it from the very first time.

How we perform sports massage
Each session begins with a brief conversation to understand your current situation: what sport you practice, what areas you're experiencing discomfort, and when you train next. From there, we work with firm pressure and specific techniques on the areas of greatest strain: legs, back, neck, shoulders, or wherever your body needs it.
We combine deep kneading, gentle joint mobilization, and sustained pressure, always at a pace your body can adapt to. No rush: each movement lasts as long as it needs to, allowing your body to truly rest between workouts.
If you want to see in more detail how to integrate massage into your sports routine, we have prepared a Guide to optimizing your performance and recovery with everything you should know before the first session.
How your session will be, step by step
If you've never had a sports massage, this is what you'll find from the moment you walk through the door.
1. Tell us how your training week is going
We started sitting down. The key question isn't just where it hurts, but When are you returning to training and what's ahead of you?. It's not the same coming in three days before a race as it is during a high-volume block or the day after a long run: the training changes completely. Also, tell us which areas you feel are tight and if there are any you'd prefer we didn't work on.
2. We'll leave you alone to change.
We leave the room and you close the door. You remove your clothing as much as you feel comfortable—many people leave their underwear on, and that's perfectly normal—and lie down under the towel. Throughout the session, only the area we're working on remains uncovered. The rest of your body stays covered.
3. We start where your sport is most active
Each sport has its own specific training plan. In running and hiking, it's the calves, hamstrings, and lower back; in cycling, the quadriceps, psoas, and neck muscles from looking straight ahead; in team sports, the adductors and ankles. The first few minutes are a broad workout to warm up the muscles, and from there we move on to the specific areas.
4. The pressure: we're talking numbers
In the loaded zones, we ask you about the intensity on a scale of 1 to 10. The place where we want to be is a 6 or a 7That discomfort you recognize as "that's it," intense but bearable. Enduring a 9 doesn't yield better results, because you tense up to defend yourself and the muscle closes up. And one indication that completely changes the experience: When you feel it tightening, slowly release the air instead of holding your breath. The tissue relaxes as you exhale. We also do gentle joint mobilizations; if any of them are uncomfortable, let us know and we'll skip them.
5. The closure and the following two days
We'll give you a few minutes' notice before we finish, then leave you alone again and you can get up slowly. And an important note if you train every day: In the following 24 or 48 hours it is common to notice the treated areas are somewhat sensitive, similar to mild muscle soreness. It's normal and it will go away on its own. That's why, if you have an important test, it's best to come at least three days in advance, not the day before.
Enduring doesn't help. Really.
In sports, gritting your teeth is rewarded. Not so on the treatment table: here, holding on longer only worsens the outcome. Telling us what you need when you need it is what allows us to do our job well. Phrases you can use without hesitation:
- «"That's an 8, lower it a bit."»
- «"Yes, stay a little longer."»
- «"That calf muscle is very sensitive, be careful."»
- «"I'm racing on Sunday, don't leave me too messed up."»
- «"I prefer that we don't talk much."»
That last one is one of the most useful: if you have a competition coming up, tell us and we'll adjust the intensity so you arrive relaxed and not overloaded.
Is this your first time? We'll tell you. what exactly happens in a first session, including the questions that almost no one asks out loud.

Deep tissue: even without training
Not everyone who books this session comes from running or cycling. Many people come looking to feel light and free again in their daily lives: to regain that feeling of moving comfortably after hours in front of the computer or maintaining the same posture for too long. That's what deep tissue work is for: slow, inward pressure that restores the muscle's ability to release what it has been accumulating.
In these cases, in addition to pressure, we incorporate gentle movements and assisted stretches that guide the body toward a greater sense of spaciousness and balance. We're not trying to correct anything; we want you to leave feeling more open and calm. Let us know when you book, and we'll adapt the session to your day, not to an athlete's protocol.
If you come regularly, we also share small self-care habits that you can apply at home or at work to maintain that feeling of lightness between sessions.
Muscle recovery and contractures
One of the most common situations among those who come for sports massage at Quiroesencia is the accumulated muscle tension that doesn't subside on its own between workouts — what many call a muscle strain. It's not an injury in itself, but a response of the muscle to overload or sustained effort: the tissue becomes contracted, dense, sensitive to touch, and limits movement.
Sports massage works directly on that accumulated tension with specific pressure, deep kneading, and muscle release techniques adapted to each area. The goal is not to mechanically eliminate the muscle contraction, but to guide the muscle towards a feeling of greater freedom and allow the body to recover its natural range of motion. We explore this in more detail in our guide on Muscle recovery with sports massage.
If you've been experiencing tension in a particular area for a few days—trapezius, calves, hamstrings, lower back—let us know when you book. We'll adapt the session to focus the work on where you need it most. If muscle tension is accompanied by severe pain, tingling, or clearly limits movement, consult a qualified healthcare professional first. — Massage is a wellness practice, not a substitute for medical or physiotherapy care.
