You get home, remove your makeup, or simply wash your face before bed, and that's the end of your skincare routine. Like almost everyone else's. But there are ten minutes you can add right there, without buying anything new, that make a real difference in how your face feels the next day.
Does that feeling of a heavy face at the end of the day sound familiar? Kobido-style self-massage is the version you can do yourself at home between sessions, and it's worth having on hand.
Before we begin
Cleanse your face thoroughly. Apply a few drops of facial oil or serum so your fingers glide smoothly without pulling on your skin—this is important, because without gliding, the gesture ceases to be a massage and becomes a pulling motion. Sit comfortably in front of a mirror and take a moment before you begin: relax your jaw and lower your shoulders. That first minute of stillness is just as important as the technique.
The sequence, step by step
- Neck. Smooth upward movements, from the base towards the jaw.
- Chin. Small, gentle pinches, without squeezing.
- Jawline. Slide your fingers from the center of your chin towards your ears.
- Flowerpot. Gentle pressure with circular movements — this is the area that most people discover they had tension in.
- Forehead and temples. Sliding lines from the center of the forehead towards the temples.
- Closing. A gentle scalp massage to finish.
Ten minutes is enough. You don't need to apply strong pressure at any point: if you feel yourself pressing too hard, reduce the intensity. The goal is to complement the feeling of lightness in your face, not to force anything.
If you only have ten minutes before bed
Where does the tension go?. The face has more than forty muscles that work almost all day long. The ones that tend to get the most strain are the area between the eyebrows, the temples, the jawline, and the area around the eyes, and from there the feeling can extend down to the neck. If you only have time for one area, start with the jawline.
Which oil to use. Any oil that glides on without leaving the skin sticky: jojoba, almond, or rosehip. Three or four drops warmed between the palms are enough. Without oil, the motion pulls on the skin and ceases to be a massage.
Breathe with your hands. Inhale through your nose as you place your fingers and exhale slowly through your mouth as you slide or press. A simple rhythm: count four as you inhale and six as you exhale. It helps slow down the pace of the day and makes the sequence feel much deeper.
To conclude. Finish with your open palms resting on your face, without pressing, for three breaths. This is the moment when almost everyone notices that their jaw has finally loosened.
